Central execution
Hosted VDI:-
Apps and desktop
Dedicated and pooled desktop
Virtual machine
Hosted shared:-
Apps and desktop
Windows server
System based desktop or apps
Physical PC
Apps and desktop
HDX 3D pro enabled
Workstation or remote PC
Access technology
APPDNA – It is a tool for which is used to
check the compatibility of application to run with Citrix
Local execution:-
Local hypervisor
Desktop
Type 1 hypervisor for PC and laptop with
xen client synchronizer
Hosted VDI :-It is dedicated VDI which is
one to one connection. It has two types
Non-persistent – user have ability to
change everything but after restart of the machine all the os or application
related change will be reset.
Persistent – it is pure dedicated ,ie user
change will remain after restart
Personal disk(pvdisk) – user changes will
be saved here and after restart cirtix take settings from here
Licensing :-
- VDI Edition-- Scalable VDI only implementations with HDX™ technology
- Enterprise Edition-- Enterprise class desktop virtualization with FlexCast™ delivery technology
- Platinum Edition-- Comprehensive desktop virtualization solution with advanced networking, management and security
License server should install separately
and the job of license server is to allocate licenses from the file
“License.LIC” and this file contains product key in encrypted format
License will be issued on the basis of
hostname of the host which is case censitive.
License file should be located at “program
files\citrix\my files
If you got the new licenses you can paste
at this location and restart the license server
For accessing the license console, port
8082 should be allowed.
You can access the console using the URL http://serverFqdn:8082
It is not necessary to store the license
file locally , you can keep this at the network location also where vendor
daemon service will be used and port no 7279 should be allowed
How to setup the environment:-
1.
Install the citrix server
(controller)—it support up to 5000 connection with a single controller
2.
Install citrix studio
3.
Create site in the studio and
configure required parameter
4.
Install citrix director
5.
Install virtual delivery agent
There are two type of service which VDA
provide is
Hosted desktop/apps – It is used for server
os where server VDA is used.
Hosted VDI – It is used for desktop os
where desktop VDA is used.
6.
Create machine catalog
How VDA works – VDA used application like
ms-office firefox on the 2008 server os then its communicate with the studio
and then catalog
Communication:-
1.
User connects to the store
front and clicks on any application or user ask for vdi through receiver.
2.
Store font talk to the
controller which is inbuilt in the studio, store front or receiver send an
authentication req to the controller
3.
Controller has XXML(XEN
Extensible markup language service) running which has the information that how
to get authentication done.
4.
Controller talks with ADDS
server on port no 389 for the authentication.
5.
After the confirmation from
ldap , controller then talk to the DB about what type of access user has.
6.
DB return the access type and
send it to the controller
7.
Again XXML service creates a
temp XSL with the details given by DB and sends it to the license server.
8.
Now license server’s task is to
validate whether license for the specified service is available or not
9.
It license is granted it sends
the req to the Hypervisor where VDA is running to do further process
10.
Once VDA receive the req it
append the request packet with the hypervisor details and again send it to
controller.
11.
In the controller XXML service
again create an XSL and send it to store front with all the details.
12.
Now the task of store front is
to create a blank .ica file and fill it with the detail which came from
controller
13.
After creation of the .ica file
it send it back to the receiver on the user’s machine
14.
Now ICA protocol starts working
and creates direct session with the hypervisor and maintains the session.
15.
In the ICA there is a kind of
ASP (Access station protocol) is inbuilt to maintain the session with the
hypervisor.
Inside the DB:-
Citrix create two databases to maintain the
environment.
1.
Primary Database – It contain
site info, static info and dynamic info
2.
Secondary Database – It contain
configuration logs and monitoring data
Since secondary database do lots of
transaction on every request so it is recommended to migrate it to another
server after creation.
1.
Controller creates vm in
Hypervisor with the help of MCS
2.
For each vm MCS creates two
disk in the storage
3.
First disk is the ID disk which
store the information of individual vms like machine account or anything go to
the AD and second disk is needed by os to run the services for that vm
4.
When we create vm from a master
image then at that point of time a redundant copy of that master image created
which is shared by rest of the vms for their services.
5.
In the hypervisor there is a
service running called intellicache which cache first VM’s startup and
application settings to the hypervisor and all rest of the vms referred to get
their first setting from here
